7 Industry-Advancing Deals Signed at AOG 2025
The Angola Oil & Gas Conference and Exhibition, which concluded in Luanda last week, once again proved itself as the go-to platform for dealmaking in the country’s oil and gas sector, with seven significant deals signed during the event.
ANPG, Sonangol, Red Sky Energy and Acrep
Angola’s upstream regulator the National Oil, Gas & Biofuels Agency (ANPG) signed an agreement with the country’s Block 6/24 partners – namely, Angolan national oil company Sonangol and exploration and production companies ACREP and Red Sky Energy – during AOG 2025. The agreement aims to advance development activities at the block. Situated in the shallow waters of the Kwanza basin, Block 6/24 is supported by 3,000 km² of seismic and features one existing oil discovery – the Cegonha find, made in the 1980s.
ANPG, Sonangol, Shell and Chevron
The ANPG signed an agreement with Sonangol and energy majors Chevron and Shell for Block 33/24. Cementing Shell’s return to Angola after a 20-year hiatus, the agreement serves as a step towards advancing development activities at the block. Block 33/24 is situated in the ultra-deepwaters of Angola’s Congo basin. Six exploration wells have been drilled to date.
ANPG, Afentra, Maurel & Prom, Sonangol
The ANPG, Sonangol and independent energy companies Afentra and Maurel & Prom formalized a new partnership during AOG 2025. The agreement grants rights to Block 3/24, located in Angola’s shallow waters, marking a significant milestone for Afentra as it secures its first operating license in the country.
ANPG, ExxonMobil, Azule Energy, Equinor & Sonangol
Energy major ExxonMobil and its partners on Block 15 – including Sonangol and international energy companies Azule Energy and Equinor – signed an agreement with the ANPG at AOG 2025. The agreement expands acreage at Block 15, one of Angola’s legacy assets. Block 15 has produced over 2.6 billion barrels of oil over a 30-year period. The recent agreement aligns with efforts by the partners to unlock additional resources at the block.
Copia Group of Companies & ASGA
Angola’s Copia Group of Companies signed a deal with Associação de Geofísica de Angola – a national organization fostering collaboration in the geoscience industry – at AOG 2025. The deal marks Copia Group of Companies’ formal entry into Angola’s geoscience community, positioning the company to collaborate more closely with leading industry players.
Angola & Ivory Coast
Angola’s ANPG and Ivory Coast’s Directorate General of Hydrocarbons signed a cooperation agreement at AOG 2025. The agreement provides a framework for cooperation within the fields of hydrocarbons and biofuels, while outlining collaborative opportunities in technical training, research and development.
ANPG, Azule Energy
Azule Energy signed an agreement with the ANPG at AOG 2025, establishing the framework for incremental production from additional development wells at Block 31. The agreement redefines and consolidates the block into a single development, encompassing the Plutão, Saturno, Vênus and Marte fields. The agreement also extends the production license to December 31, 2032, ensuring continued development at the block.
