10 Major Outcomes from Angola Oil & Gas 2025
This year’s edition of the Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) Conference and Exhibition, which took place on September 3-4 in Luanda, featured a series of industry-advancing developments. From billion-dollar commitments, project launches and scholarships, to block updates and deals, AOG 2025 reaffirmed its position as the premier meeting platform for the country’s oil and gas industry.
Celebrating 50 Years of Independence
AOG 2025 coincided with Angola’s 50 years of independence celebration, offering an opportunity for stakeholders to reflect on the lessons of the past and forge new pathways towards an energy secure future. Angolan President João Lourenço opened the event, offering a clear vision for the next era of the country’s hydrocarbon-led development.
Pre-Conference
The AOG 2025 pre-conference featured a series of technical presentations and workshops, with speakers sharing insights into the technologies of tomorrow. ExxonMobil detailed game-changing drone technology, the ANPG shared insight into incremental production opportunities, Corcel announced plans to kickstart 2D seismic campaign while the IRDP outlined Angola’s refining plans.
Billion-Dollar Investments Announced
Energy majors bp, Eni and TotalEnergies committed billions for Angolan projects during AOG 2025. Eni announced plans by Azule Energy – an Eni-bp joint venture – to invest $5 billion in the market over the next several years while TotalEnergies shared plans to invest $3 billion through its Dalia Life Extension project.
Seven Deals Signed
AOG 2025 featured seven deal-signings, reaffirming the event’s position as a premier dealmaking platform. Agreements were signed for Block 6/24, Block 33/24, Block 3/24, Block 15 and Block 31, while Angola and Ivory Coast signed a cooperation deal and Copia Group of Companies joined Associação de Geofísica de Angola. Among the deals, Shell made its reentry into Angola after 20 years while Afentra secured its first operatorship.
$70B Investment Pipeline Shared
Angola’s Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas affirmed that the country will launch its next licensing round by the end of 2025. The country is also offering acreage through direct negotiation. The ANPG also revealed an investment pipeline of approximately $70 billion within the next five years, highlighting opportunities across offshore and onshore basins.
First Cargo Launched at Agogo Project
First cargo from the Agogo Integrated West Hub (IWH) development project, operated by Azule Energy in block 15/06 in the lower Congo Basin, offshore Angola was officially shipped during AOG 2025. Shipping was given permission to commence by Angolan President João Lourenço during the opening of the event, following the start of operations in August 2025.
Angola Awards 4 Scholarships
Four students received scholarships to attend the Instituto Nacional de Petróleos (INP) in Sumbe at AOG 2025. The scholarships were awarded under the Albina Faria de Assis Pereira Africano INP Scholarship for Girls initiative, which aims to support female petroleum students complete their studies in Angola.
Showcasing Innovation & Technology
AOG 2025 featured the first-ever Deals & Showcases track, which included presentations that demonstrate youth-led innovation in Angolan oil and gas. The track also featured a series of sessions that explored the procurement process of some of the country’s biggest operators.
Project Updates
A series of block and project updates were shared during AOG 2025. On the drilling side, ExxonMobil announced plans to drill at Block 15, Azule Energy will drill at Block 15/06 and Block 47, TotalEnergies will drill one exploration well annually in Angola, while Sonangol will drill at Block 24. Alfort Petroleum is preparing a well proposal for Block KON 8 while ReconAfrica is deploying a technical team to Angola’s Damara Fold Belt to conduct surface sampling. On the production front, the ANPG shared that first gas from Block 1/14 is expected by year-end.
AOG Award Winners Announced
The AOG award winners were officially announced during the AOG 2025 gala dinner. Categories included Game Changer of the Year, Explorer of the Year, Downstream Company of the Year, Local Player of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award and more. The winners included Azule Energy, Sonangol, Cabinda Refinery, among many others.
