MISD recognized for excellence in financial management
MIDLAND Midland ISD’s Office of Finance has been recognized with two statewide honors for excellence in financial management and purchasing operations. The Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO) has awarded MISD the Award of Excellence in Financial Management and the Award of Merit for Purchasing Operations, making the district one of only 28 in Texas to receive both distinctions.
“These awards reflect MISD’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and financial stewardship,” Tucker Durham, MISD Chief Financial Officer, said in a news release. “Our finance and purchasing teams work diligently to ensure responsible management of taxpayer dollars, and we are proud to be recognized for these efforts.”
The Award of Excellence in Financial Management, sponsored by Frontline Education, was established in 2020 to honor districts that adhere to professional standards, best practices, and innovations in financial management and reporting. This marks the first time MISD has received this recognition, joining an elite group of only 32 districts statewide to earn the distinction this year. To qualify, applicants must demonstrate compliance with stringent financial guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) Financial Accountability System Resource Guide (FASRG).
In addition, the Award of Merit for Purchasing Operations recognizes school districts that demonstrate professional standards in the acquisition of goods and services. This marks the fifth consecutive year that MISD’s Purchasing Department has earned this distinction, joining only 80 districts statewide to receive the honor for 2025. Each year, TASBO’s Purchasing & Supply Management Research Committee evaluates and updates award criteria to reflect the latest best practices in school purchasing operations.
“We are so impressed with these organizations, who have gone through the rigorous process of meticulously documenting their districts’ policies and procedures,” said TASBO Executive Director Tracy Ginsburg. “Not only have they showcased the ways they monitor spending, improve budgeting, implement controls, and enhance financial reporting, but they have shared their best practices with colleagues throughout Texas, helping even more educational organizations better utilize taxpayer dollars.”
MISD will be formally recognized for both awards during the TASBO annual conference Feb. 26.
